Hévíz with its large thermal lake, is one of Europe's most important spas. On this short holiday you will discover Hévíz the small, picturesque town and the close baroque town Keszthely, in enchanting environment on the western edge of Lake Balaton and beautiful parts of Balaton Uplands National Park. This area is a popular holiday resort in the summer season, while you can enjoy undisturbed peace and calm of the old times in the spring and autumn season. You shouldn't miss to visit here the beautiful baroque Festetics Castle. With its 101 rooms it is the 3rd largest castle in Hungary.

Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival at Hévíz

Individual arrival. Getting acquainted with Hévíz and Keszthely. Accommodation in Hévíz.

Day 2: Relaxing Day in Hévíz

Relaxing in Hévíz Thermal Lake.

Day 3: Hévíz - Fonyód - Badacsony - Hévíz (70 km)

You will ride on the southern shore of Lake Balaton through Balatonmária to Fonyód. Here you will cross the lake by ship and arrive to Badacsony. You will cycle back to Hévíz on the Northern shore through Szigliget and Balatongyörök. On the road you can taste the famous wines of Badacsony , walk up the ruin of the a fortress in Szigliget hill and enjoy the beautiful views around the lake.

Day 4: Hévíz - Sümeg - Hévíz (70 km)

On the road to Sümeg near Zalaszántó you will ride between Rezi and Tátika Hills hide the ruins of two old castle and Kovácsi Hill, where you

can discover a Buddhist Stupa. Slopes and rises diversify the route as it leads through romantic villages of area. In Sümeg you can visit the castle, watching historical tilts, admire the baroque facade of Episcopal Palace , the baroque buildings and parish church, with the frescoes of Maulbertsch. Back to Hévíz you will ride through quiet land with small villages in picturesque rural environment.

Day 5: Kis-Balaton tour (70 km)

Kis-Balaton is part of Balaton Uplands National Park. The wetland area (Little Balaton) with the reed beds is a paradise for birds. Cycling to Kápolnapuszta you can find the Buffalo Reserve demonstration site. Visit Kányavár Island, with nature trail and lookout tower. Finally in Zalavár you can observe the ruins and memorials of ancient history. Return back to Hévíz.
