This tour guides you through on the different regions of Balaton Uplands National Park and Landscape protection areas can be found in Northern side of Lake Balaton. During the tour you will walk on the most picturesque paths of area, like the Lake Balaton Blue Tour and National Blue Trail. By the end of tour you will be familiar with extinct volcanoes, basalt organs, geyser cones, stone seas, caves, springs, lakes, forests with old threes, look-out towers, vineyards, peasant houses, wine cellars, press houses, water mill, baroque castles, romantic chapels,fortresses, rare birds and exotic animals of Balaton Uplands Area.



Day 1: Arrival at Balatonfüred

Individual arriving at Balatonfüred, the first health resort centre and spa of Hungary. Getting acquainted with the sights of resort area.

Day 2: Walking around Balatonfüred (18 km)

You make a nice excursion near the city: take a walk to the unique Lóczy cave, Jókai look-out tower, Koloska valley and Koloska spring.

Day 3: On the Blue Trail in Csopak wine region (17 km)

Today you will walk along hillsides full of vineyards of famous Csopak wine region and nice villages from Balatonarács to Balatonalmádi. Back to Balatonfüred by train.

Day 4: Tihany peninsula (14 km)

During the tour you will discover not only Tihany village, which one of the oldest settlement in the region, but the varied landscape and the unique geological value of the Tihany peninsula: the natural beauty of the lakes, the hill sides and mountains covered with vineyards, forests, the geyser cones arose as the results of post volcanic activity.
Follow the next nature trail: Landing place of ships - Ciprián spring - 'Monks' flats' - Óvár - Kiserdő - Inner lake -Mountain Apáti - Levendulás - Mountain Nyereg - Mountain Csúcs - Research house - Geyser field - Stone depot - 'Golden House' - Inner lake - Old village.
Visit the picturesque village and the Benedictine Abbey church. The monastery of the Benedictine Order, was established by King Andrew I in 1055. The roman hall crypt saves the tomb of the king. Other places worth to see: Echo Hill, Open-Air Museum, Pottery workshop. Return back to Füred by ship.

Day 5: Getting started with Káli Basin (18 km)

Transfer to Révfülöp. Visit the Millenial Look-out Tower on Fülöp hill. You proceed towards Kővágóörs, the village is built on a rare geological formation, the so called stone sea. Visit the basalt cone of the Hegyestű (337m ). Walking down to Köveskál, the village with reconstructed historical buildings and wine cellars. Follow the blue tourist sign up to Fekete hill (369m) and down to Szentbékkálla, where you will overnight.

Day 6: Káli Basin and the Monadnocks (21 km)

Climb the Hegyesd hill (281 m), with the foundations of the former fortress on the extinct volcano. Visit the ruins of historic fortress on the top of Csobánc hill (375m), was never accupied by troops. Enjoy the excellent view of Tapolca Basin, Bakony mountains and Lake Balaton. Back to Szentbékkálla and visit the famous sea of stones.

Day 7: From Káli Basin to basalt hill Badacsony (18 km)

Walk through Mindszentkálla to Kékkút, Theodora Spring. Near Salföld you can observe the block field. Visit the show centre and Nature Conservation Farm. Climb up the volcanic hills of the area: Tóti hill (346m), Gulács (393m) and finally Badacsony(438m). Accommodation in Badacsony.

Day 8: Witness hills in the gate of Tapolca Basin (20 km)

Visit the remains of medieval church and the ruins of fortress on the top of Castle Hill (242 m) in Szigliget. Look around the charming village with

romantic peasant houses, narrow streets winding on the hillside. You can stop for a swim at Szigliget strand in summer season. Walking towards Szentgyörgy hill (415m) first you will reach the baroque chapel and winepress-house, then the Lions's Head Well. On the top of hill you will find beautiful examples of basalt organs. Go down from the hill near the tourist house amongst the stones towards Raposka village and then on the road until Tapolca. The town was a centre for wine trade in the north Balaton region over the past centuries. Getting acquainted with Tapolca,walking around lake Malom (Mill). Accommodation in Tapolca.

Day 9: Across Keszthely mountains to Sümeg (21 km)

Transfer to Lesenceistvánd. Walk on the blue line up the hill, with excellent view. Walk up to volcanic hill of Tátika (450m) with the ruins of castle in the old wood. You can find hundreds year old beech, oak and hornbeam trees here. Walk in direction Sümeg through Sarvaly, a tourist relaxing place at the spring. In Sümeg you can visit the renovated castle, admire the baroque facade of Episcopal Palace, the baroque buildings and parish church, with the frescoes of Maulbertsch. Accommodation in Sümeg.

Day 10: Zalaszántó - Keszthely (20 km)

Transfer to Zalaszántó. Visit the parish church of Zalaszántó and forest Stupa, the largest Buddhist shrine of Europe. Climb up to ruins of Rezi castle (418m). Walk through Rezi village. Stop at Gyöngyösi csárda (Inn). Visit Hévíz, where you can relax in Europe s largest natural thermal lake. Arriving Keszthely you can visit many sights of town, like the renovated city center, Georgikon Manor Museum, Balaton Museum, Roman Catholic church and the Festetics castle, the largest baroque castle of Hungary. Accommodation in Keszthely.

Day 11: Inside and at the foots of Keszthely mountains (19 km)

First walk to Nagymező and Festetics look-out tower, then proceed in Pető hill (355m) direction, while you reach the highest peaks of Keszthelyi mountains. From Büdöskút crossing follow the path towards Boncostető (424m) until Balatonederics, where you can visit the valuable collection and living animals of Africa Museum. Walk down from Bece hill along wine cellars and press-houses to Nice View (Szépkilátó). Walking on the shore of Lake Balaton you can not miss the chapel of Saint Michael-hill (134m) was erected by fishermen out of gratitude for their miraculous escape from the ice floes on Lake Balaton. Back to Keszthely by train.

Day 12: Leisure day or optional tour to Kis Balaton

Kis-Balaton wetland (Little Balaton) with the reed beds is a paradise for birds. Individual Kis Balaton Tour (18km walk): Individual travel to Kápolnapuszta and visit the Buffalo Reserve demonstration site. Walk to Kányavár Island, with nature trail and lookout tower. Finally in Zalavár you can observe the ruins and memorials of ancient history. Back to Keszthely (46 min) by bus. We can arrange guided bird-watching tours for groups on previous request for extra cost.arture according the time schedule.
